<redacted>

Douglass Reddan

Synopsis

<redacted> is the second scene of an eight part dance film choreographed and directed by Douglas Reddan in which we are teleported and taken on a journey through various mental spaces and states of the protagonist.

In <redacted> a intensely surreal & fictional world is created in which the audience are transported into. A grungey locker room area where four characters are experiencing a self induced euphoria/trip.

The trip presents the idea of escapism, but not the healthy kind. Using a hallucinogenic feel and tone we witness a sort of bizarreness and wackiness through its movement and energy. We are in a world where these characters are out of their conscious mind and acting sporadically & energetically from a numb state. Nothing makes sense but everything is clear.

The emphasis is on the main character and what he is experiencing however presents questions around what is reality and what is not. The film mirrors the looping that happens in the music as we watch the upward and downward spiral rave in which the characters are on.

The playfulness and entertaining nature of this piece is contrasted with dark undertones of chaos & themes of circumvention and fear. Humorous yet uncomfortable. Ignorance is Bliss… right?

Bio

"My name is Douglas Reddan. I am a 24 year old Clare-born artist. For the past 7 years I have been working and living between Co.Dublin & Co.Clare. I have worked and trained in Dublin with HipHop Dance Company ‘Fly Dance Company’ however in more recent years have been exercising my passion for a less commercial route. I have a burning passion for the intersection of dance and film and over the past few years have been gaining education and experience in these fields. Looking at the physical body as a tool to tell, show, and engage with stories no matter the creative output." - Douglas Reddan
